OVERWEIGHT WHY WE bigger
The numbers of overweight adults are thrilled and those children are considered a public health problem. Obesogenic society or impact of genetics, but what are the reasons for the aberrant numbers?
"I do not know if the worst is the contemptuous gaze of others or mine on my own body. I suffered and hate my body, my beads that separate me from the others, with a lightness of life. This hatred of my body pushes me to destroy more and more, eating. its like that since the age of 8 years. Often alone in the school yard, I became the scapegoat of some. thats when I think that I bailed in food. Larger reassured me! I have since tried many diets without success! and all these distressing words and hammered on the risks of obesity for health ?? I do not care, today I give up, "said Sylvie, 36, 107 kg for 1.67 m.
Overweight and Obesity: A real impact on health
As Sylvie, more and more French are suffering from overweight and obesity. The frequency of obesity in France is two to three times more that 20 years ago, and cases of severe obesity are three to five times more frequent. The country of gastronomy and the Mediterranean diet is hit hard by the epidemic. "It is wrong to think that obesity is among others, for the children of neighbors or Americans ... No, shes at home, and highly! Today in France, the frequency of overweight and obesity reaches 15 to 20% of the child population, as in the USA, "laments Jean-Michel Lecerf, Head of the Nutrition Department at the Pasteur Institute in Lille. However, obesity and overweight pose real health problems: increased cardiovascular risk, diabetes, sleep apnea, bone and joint pain ?? not to mention the emotional and nervous disorders caused by the loss of self-esteem. Faced with these risks and especially overweight ?? this represents financial, public authorities are determined to fight obesity on all fronts. Information campaigns and candy machines withdrawal in schools warnings at the end of each advertising slogan, etc. The problem is that the causes of obesity are not always where you expect them??
An environment kilos!
Obviously, everyone can see that the modern lifestyle of the industrialized countries is accompanied by a significant increase in obesity, particularly among children. Haro so Mac Donald and other fast foods, junk food symbols on American sodas dressed in red and blue cans and advertisements for sweets, ready meals and fatty products. Health professionals also draw attention to the breakdown of food, growing portion sizes, the abandonment of the consumption of fruits and vegetables and foods with little or no refined (cereals and wholemeal bread, pulses ... ) and excess pastry. But, poor diet does not explain everything! "In fact, overweight and obesity are mainly the result of an imbalance between the costs associated with physical activity increasingly weak and food intake have not decreased proportionately," says Jean-Michel Lecerf. And industrialized countries, especially in the cities, we move less and less, because of the car and the increase in passive activities such as video games, computer work or television. For example, an additional hour of weekly television would increase by 2% the risk of obesity. Currently, however, in France, the average child spends 20 to 25 hours a week watching television! And increased supply chain or the presence of a screen in the childs room does not help the situation ??
And genetics in?
However, we are not all equal before the devastating effects of cream puffs and other overweight bombs. "Only children can constitutionally predisposed to become obese," says Patrick Tounian, professor in the department of gastroenterology and pediatric nutrition at the Armand Trousseau Hospital. Indeed, some children have a genetic predisposition contribute to the onset of obesity. The modern diet and lack of physical activity just come exacerbate this risk in these children.
Inadequate measures against obesity!
Given this situation, it is questionable whether the current efforts in France (and elsewhere) to fight against obesity are well suited. "Leave imagine that obesity threatens all children and multiply information campaigns in this direction may increase social discrimination against children who become obese despite these warnings. This also leads to eating disorders among many other children who are not concerned with the risk of obesity, "warns Patrick Tounian. Instead of targeting all French children, it would certainly be better to look young genetically at risk for obesity. Some health professionals would like it only targets children with at least one parent is already obese and who are overweight before the age of 6 years. Indeed, these risk factors are recognized by numerous studies and are easily diagnosable. "We would gain in efficiency and savings, and reduce psychosis related to obesity," suggests Patrick Tounian.
Obesity: other causes in the study ...
Aside from genetics, other factors predispose a child to obesity, from the uterine life. Thus, smoking, gestational diabetes and malnutrition of the mother during the first two trimesters of pregnancy would make children more likely to develop obesity. Similarly, during the first months of life, rather than the artificial breastfeeding, and contributions increased protein and omega 6 fatty acids also favor the later onset of obesity. Nonetheless, studies are still needed to prove the real influence of these factors. Another avenue is to seek the ?? microbes side. Thus, a virus (adenovirus 36 for short) injected into mice make them obese. Moreover, instillation of the intestinal flora of obese mice in lean mice results in weight gain in the latter. Finally, the curves of the evolution of obesity have the same profile as those unfortunate infectious epidemics! "These assumptions still seem extravagant, but it is likely that we have surprises in the future. In any case, they show that summarize the causes of obesity junk food is reductive and simplistic," concludes Patrick Tounian. Obesity and overweight have to behave themselves, researchers have at their heels ??
Recognize the sensation of hunger!
Attention hunger is sometimes confused with ?? thirst. "Quiet solid food consumption momentarily thirst. In addition, the fatigue caused by dehydration is wrongly regarded as a lack of sugar. This confusion creates a vicious circle because the more you eat, the more the body needs to water, "says Christopher Vasey, naturopath. Similarly, eating fills sometimes the feeling of boredom. The parade? Before throwing a snack, always ask if the sensation is that of hunger or boredom! In the latter case, better to call his friends rather than eat ??

Why You Should Avoid Using HCG for Weight Loss

What is HCG?
HCG or human chorionic gonadotropin is a protein-based hormone that supports the normal development of an egg in a womans ovary, and stimulates the release of the egg during ovulation. HCG is used to cause ovulation and to treat infertility in women, and to increase sperm count in men. HCG is also used in young boys when their testicles have not dropped down into the scrotum normally. This can be caused by a pituitary gland disorder.
HCG for Weight Loss… More recently, HCG has been in the news as a weight loss “aid.” Ads claim it “targets the fat” and “reduces cravings.” However, HCG providers prescribe a 500-calorie diet, too. A very-low-calorie-diet (defined as 800 cal/day or lower) alone would result in significant weight loss. However, there are risks associated with a VLCD, and medical monitoring is suggested as a standard of medical care. The American Society of Bariatric Physicians Position Statement on the use of VLCDs is an informative resource. http://www.asbp.org
Why do people claim they are not hungry?
The decrease in hunger emphasized in HCG ads is likely attributed to the dietary emphasis on higher protein intake and/or carbohydrate restriction resulting in ketosis. These dietary regimens are associated with diminished hunger sensation. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18175736
What about HCG drops?
HCG is sold as drops to be absorbed “under the tongue” or sublingually. There is a “ceiling” with regard to the size of a molecule that can be absorbed orally, and that is approximately 1500 daltons, a measure for molecular weight. HCG’s molecular weight is approximately 30,000 daltons—about six times larger than insulin, which, by the way, has to be injected. Neither insulin nor HCG can be absorbed orally.
What about homeopathic or chiroHCG sold by chiropractors?
Homeopathy is based the belief that disease symptoms can be cured by small doses of substances which produce similar symptoms in healthy people. All HCG drop formulations are inert, or having no pharmacological action, due to high molecular weight. Moreover, it is the specific shape and structure of a molecule on which the hormone’s action depends. In other words, it has to fit like a “key into a lock” or nothing happens. Therefore, it would be impossible to “take a small dose” or “a segment” of a hormone and expect to cause any kind of biological action.
What if I swallow HCG?
Even IF drop formulations actually contained HCG, the protein molecule would pass into the stomach where it would be broken down into small peptides and amino acids by gastric acid—just like your dinner portion of chicken—again, no potential for biological action!
What about HCG injections?
HCG can be given by injection by a licensed physician under “off-label” use. However, doing so is not risk free. This medicine can increase chances of a multiple pregnancy. Some women using this medicine have developed a condition called ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), especially after the first treatment cycle. You should NOT use this medicine if you are at risk for a hormone-related cancer such as tumor of the breast, ovary, uterus, prostate, hypothalamus, or pituitary gland.
What is the FDA’s stance on HCG?
Since 1975, the FDA has considered the use of HCG for weight loss to be fraudulent and requires labels for HCG to state: HCG HAS NO KNOWN EFFECT ON FAT MOBILIZATION, APPETITE OR SENSE OF HUNGER, OR BODY FAT DISTRIBUTION. HCG HAS NOT BEEN DEMONSTRATED TO BE EFFECTIVE ADJUNCTIVE THERAPY IN THE TREATMENT OF OBESITY. THERE IS NO SUBSTANTIAL EVIDENCE THAT IT INCREASES WEIGHT LOSS BEYOND THAT RESULTING FROM CALORIC RESTRICTION, THAT IT CAUSES A MORE ATTRACTIVE OR “NORMAL” DISTRIBUTION OF FAT, OR THAT IT DECREASES THE HUNGER AND DISCOMFORT ASSOCIATED WITH CALORIE-RESTRICTED DIETS.
Has the Federal Trade Commission taken action?
In 1976, the FTC ordered the Simeon Management Corporation, Simeon Weight Clinics Foundation, Bariatrics Management Corporation, C.M. Norcal, Inc., and HCG Weight Clinics Foundation and their officers to stop claiming that their HCG-based programs were safe, effective, and/or approved by the FDA for weight-control. Although the order did not stop the clinics from using HCG, it required that patients who contract for the treatment be informed in writing that:
THESE WEIGHT REDUCTION TREATMENTS INCLUDE THE INJECTION OF HCG, A DRUG WHICH HAS NOT BEEN APPROVED BY THE FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION AS SAFE AND EFFECTIVE IN THE TREATMENT OF OBESITY OR WEIGHT CONTROL. THERE IS NO SUBSTANTIAL EVIDENCE THAT HCG INCREASES WEIGHT LOSS BEYOND THAT RESULTING FROM CALORIC RESTRICTION, THAT IT CAUSES A MORE ATTRACTIVE OR "NORMAL" DISTRIBUTION OF FAT, OR THAT IT DECREASES THE HUNGER AND DISCOMFORT ASSOCIATED WITH CALORIE-RESTRICTIVE DIETS.
What is the opinion of physicians trained in obesity management?
In 2009, the American Society of Bariatric Physicians issued a position statement which stated:
Numerous clinical trials have shown HCG to be ineffectual in producing weight loss. HCG injections can induce a slight increase in muscle mass in androgen-deficient males. The diet used in the Simeons method provides a lower protein intake than is advisable in view of current knowledge and practice. There are few medical literature reports favorable to the Simeons method; the overwhelming majority of medical reports are critical of it. Physicians employing either the HCG or the diet recommended by Simeons may expose themselves to criticism from other physicians, from insurers, or from government bodies. http://www.asbp.org/resources/uploads/files/HCG%20Position%20Statement.pdf
What have the studies on HCG revealed?
A meta-analysis of eight controlled and 16 uncontrolled trials that measured the effect of HCG in the treatment of obesity shows no benefit to using HCG. It was concluded that there is no scientific evidence that HCG is effective in the treatment of obesity; it does not bring about weight-loss of fat-redistribution, nor does it reduce hunger or induce a feeling of well-being.

bestdiet2015 diet2015 What are Omega 3s and why should you care
Hopefully if you’re here, you already know that dietary fat is our friend (provided we are eating good healthy fats).
Omega-3s are a special type of fat that are ultra-healthy, and essential in any healthy diet.
They can help your heart, help you lose weight, help brain function and mood, lower inflammation, lower plaque build-up inside blood vessels, lower blood triglycerides, help insulin sensitivity…. and so on.
You get the picture. They are a very good thing.
So what are Omega-3s?
Omega-3s are fatty acids, primarily found in certain types of fish (mainly oily fish). There are a few key kinds of omega-3s, namely EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid), DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid) and ALA (alpha-linolenic acid).
EPA and DHA are mainly found in fish, ALA can come from other sources such as nuts and seeds, and dark leafy vegetables like spinach. The body can change a small amount of ALA into EPA and DHA, but not very well. Your body can’t make Omega-3s itself, so you need to make sure you get enough of these wonder-nutrients (and if not, you can supplement).
It’s EPA and DHA that we really care about for health. Simply put, these Omega-3s are awesome. They have a whole litany of health benefits (see the list beow
Why are you telling me all this?
I want you to have optimal health, and for starters I doubt you are eating enough good quality fish (see below) or have enough Omega-3 in your diet. You need to be having 3-4 decent servings of salmon, mackerel, tuna (etc) per week.
Even if you are, I would still recommend supplementing with a good quality fish-oil to make sure your levels are optimal.
Personally I eat 5-6 portions of salmon, mackerel or tuna each week, and supplement with 2-3g of EPA/DHA per day. I get my fish oils from Genetic Supplements in the UK (I would take ~4 capsules a day, spread throughout the day with meals).
So what are these benefits?
Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to (or linked with) the following benefits.
- Improvements in cardiac and arterial health (improvements in cardiovascular risk profiles, reductions in cardiac mortality, reduction in coronary heart disease, etc.)
- Lower blood pressure
- Decrease inflammation
- Improved insulin sensitivity and prevents and reverses insulin resistance
- Help with brain function and reduce cognitive decline
- Help with hypertension
- Help with some cancers
- Help with bi-polar disorders, depression, and ADHD
See a more fulsome list here.
Omega-3/Omega-6 Balance
Another thing to bear in mind is your Omega-3:Omega-6 ratio. Omega-6 are fatty acids that mainly come from seed-oils and vegetable oils, and the conventional Western diet is very high in Omega-6 (and low in Omega-3), and in the US it is estimated that the average intake of Omega-6 is not 10x-25x higher than our bodies are designed for!
Simply put, one of the key reasons to consume Omega-3s is to try and keep your Omega-3 balance as close to 1:1 as you can (as well as all the great health benefits above), as this is closer to estimated evolutionary norms. The theory goes that due to the anti-inflammatory benefits of Omega-3s, having this balance out of whack can cause issues throughout the body.
Increased Omega-6 intakes are associated with increased instance of inflammatory disease, such as:
- obesity
- type 2 diabetes
- metabolic syndrome
- cardiovascular disease
- irritable bowel syndrome & inflammatory bowel disease
- autoimmune diseases
- etc.
Gimme. Where can I get these amazing Omega-3s?
The best source of Omega-3s is from eating fish high in DHA/EPA regularly (3-4 times a week). This is not all fish, but generally cold water oily fish. Some of the prime movers-and-shakers in the Omega-3 world are below. Get a decent portion on your plate 3-4 times a week.
Supplementation with a good quality fish oil is also recommended, to make sure you are getting 1-3g of DHA/EPA in per day (even on days where you eat fish).
Don’t skimp on quality with fish oil. You really get what you pay for when fish oil supplements, and this is one where going cheap is not wise (unless you have no other choice). Heavy metal concentrations for instance can accumulate in certain types of fish (which then gets magnified when those fish are processed into fish oil supplements. Check this out for instance.
The best natural sources:
- salmon (wild salmon has more omega-3s, and a better nutrient profile, than farmed salmon, so buy wild where you can)
- tuna
- anchovies
- mackerel
- bluefish
- herring
- sardines
- sturgeon
- lake trout
