Immortality Myth or Reality
Immortality is the one thing that has driven men crazy since ancient times. Some are still searching for it. The reason is simple. Nobody wants to die. Death is the worst fear and search for immortality will always remain in this world. But this search for immortality has given a number of lessons and gifts to mankind. This search has taken some people in wrong directions but also taken some towards great scientific discoveries.
Religions are also created for immortality and remove fear of death. This thing is true for most of the religions. All religions and castes are created to remove the fear of death.
Now if we talk about Religion, then religions were group of people from a certain locality or country. Religions include a number of castes. So religions are bigger groups, so its effect to remove fear is bigger than caste group. Different philosophies were created by different religions to connect men with god. Connection with god is the ultimate way to remove fear of death. In this way religion make its very hard impression in the life and mind of simple human beings. However there we intellectuals in all religion who created methods of meditation to connect men with ultimate power of universe.
In this way men tried to remove fear by creating religions, meditation and ways of worship. But some men with scientific approach also tried to make men immortal.
Some intellectual people tried to use meditation to connect men with the energy of universe, and concepts like souls and traveling from one body to another is discovered. According to some philosophies soul never dies. It takes birth as a baby, dies as an old man and then again takes birth as a new baby. Some people strongly believe in this philosophy while some dont. It may be true but it may also be true that we believe in soul so that we feel that we are immortal. If we think like an intellectual, the population of world is constantly increasing and if each body has a soul the from where are these new souls coming into existence.
We will discuss the fact of Souls in our next article. Keep visiting betterhealthfacts.com for more such articles. Your comments and most welcome. It may help in better understanding of immortality.
Religions are also created for immortality and remove fear of death. This thing is true for most of the religions. All religions and castes are created to remove the fear of death.
Castes Religions and Fear of Death
If we begin from castes, then Castes are a group of people belonging to a particular trade. When we are in group, we feel a feeling of security. Basically this feeling of security removes fear if death. Now if we talk about Religion, then religions were group of people from a certain locality or country. Religions include a number of castes. So religions are bigger groups, so its effect to remove fear is bigger than caste group. Different philosophies were created by different religions to connect men with god. Science and Fear of Death
Medical science succeeded to increase the lifespan of men. A number of new medicines and vaccination were discovered by scientists and some life-threatening diseases were fully removed from various countries. In similar way men made a number of discoveries to make make life comfortable. For example electricity, bulb, telephone, fan, airplane and lot more. All these things are in some way related to postpone the death. But none of them succeeded in removing death from mens life. Medicines and luxuries made human life comfortable and increased lifespan but death cant be removed. Italian Sausage and Kale Soup Recipe with Whole Wheat Orzo or broken spaghetti
I love this Italian Sausage and Kale Soup with Whole Wheat Orzo. If you don't have orzo, use some broken pieces of whole wheat spaghetti!

I'd probably never heard of Whole Wheat Orzo Pasta in 2010 when I first made this Italian Sausage and Kale Soup using broken pieces of whole wheat spaghetti, but orzo is such a perfect soup ingredient that when I decided to update the recipe with better photos, it seemed like a perfect switch. So now I have to rename the recipe to Italian Sausage and Kale Soup with Whole Wheat Orzo, don't I? But no worries if you don't have orzo (or don't want to buy it), go ahead and break up some spaghetti into short pieces to add to the soup. You could also make a delicious lower-carb soup using this recipe by leaving out the pasta completely.
Sausage, kale, tomatoes, and whole wheat orzo or spaghetti; doesn't that sound like a combination that could inspire a lot of good recipes? When I updated the photos for this soup, I increased the amount of kale so the soup is even more nutritious, but no matter how you make it, this soup is definitely a winner. (Updated January 2015 with better photos and instructions.)

(Updated with better photos and step-by-step instructions, September 2014.) This delicious Zucchini and Yellow Squash Soup with Rosemary and Parmesan is a recipe that has a lot of sentimental value for me. I first made it in 2008 when Lisa of Homesick Texan sent me the link to this recipe on Epicurious.com and told me how delicious it was. And I was making soup back then because I had just gotten braces on my teeth!
Now flash forward six years and I'm still enjoying this Zucchini Soup with my nice straight teeth. Things have changed in six years though, and now I'd pull out my beloved Cuisinart Electric Pressure Cooker to make the soup more quickly. Not to worry though, if you don't have a pressure cooker you can easily make this soup on the stove. It's still zucchini and summer squash season for a few more weeks, and I think using those summer veggies in a soup is a perfect way to transition into fall (which arrives tomorrow, sob!)

Sports drink or water
A common question is whether you should choose water or a sports drink to rehydrate during exercise. Sports drinks provide not only water, but also electrolytes and carbohydrates, which are particularly desirable to athletes who train at higher intensities for longer than 60 minutes. Exercising at higher intensities or in the heat increases your bodys demand for carbohydrate as a fuel source to sustain activity and avert fatigue. Providing carbohydrate in the form of a sports drink is not only convienient, but may help increase daily caloric intake for athletes who struggle to get enough calories every day with meals alone. For these reasons, consuming a sports drink is often a good choice for rehydration during training or competition. If you are training at lower intensities for shorter durations, water is sufficient for rehydration.

"to investigate the effects of different combinations of training intensities and exercises selection, as well as the combination of both, on muscle strength and CSA." (Fonseca. 2014)Base on the authors previous findings (Lamas. 2012; Laurentino. 2012; Wallerstein. 2012), Fonseca et al. hypothesized that muscle hypertrophy would not be affected by the different loading schemes and exercise variation; however, the differences in motor unit recruitment provided by the exercise variation would produce superior gains in muscle strength.
A secondary purpose of the present study was thus to identify if the loading scheme and exercises variation would produce differences in the hypertrophy response of the quadriceps muscle heads.

Maybe its not just about the exercises, but also about which exercises you rotate in... This is something you should keep in mind, when you look aat the results of the study at hand. Ok, squats may be the best exercise for legs, but is it surprising that adding in some leg presses and deadlifts will yield even better results? I dont think so - do you?

Therefore I decided to simply give you the overview of the 12 training weeks from the original paper in which you can see that there were two parameters Fonseca et al. varied, i.e.
- intensity as in higher reps, lower weight vs. lower reps, higher weight and
- exercise, i.e. did the subjects to the same stuff all the time or did they switch from one exercise to the next,

| In terms of strength gains, its ~20% less efficient to vary only the intensity on the same exercise (Fonseca. 2014). |
In the mean time, the Brazilian / US research team is yet spot on, when they say that "variations in training intensity are not critical to produce strength and muscle hypertrophy gains in the initial phase of a ST program." (Fonseca. 2014).
Specifically for rapid mass and even more so strength gains beginners and early advanced trainees (instead of trainees who hadnt touched a weight regular for at least 6 months, as it was the case in the study at hand), varying the the exercises and thus the stimulus mode instead of its intensity will yield significant gains and "seems to produce a more complete muscle activation hypertrophying all of the heads of multi-pennate muscles." (Fonseca. 2014)

Baked Falafels With Lemon Tahini SauceOn A Salad Or In A PitaAn Excellent Source Of Protein
| Falafel sandwiches in pita bread make a great lunch! Follow Foods For Long Life on Facebook and Pinterest. My eBook, Health Begins in the Kitchen, is available on Amazon and iTunes. |
Garbanzo Beans as a Protein Source
I love garbanzos. Besides being a versatile bean that can be used in many different dishes, they contain an excellent source of complete protein which means they provide all the essential amino acids in the proper proportions. They are also an excellent source of dietary fiber, folate, and manganese.
Baked Falafel
I love a good falafel but most of them served in restaurants are fried. This recipe uses a small amount of oil and bakes them in the oven. Stuff a few of them in pita bread with chopped lettuce, cucumber, avocado and tomato. Top with some lemon-tahini sauce and you have a great lunch. Or for a lighter gluten-free meal, serve baked falafels on top of salad tossed with lemon-tahini sauce.
| For a gluten-free meal, skip the pita and serve on top of salad. |
Start with Dried Garbanzo Beans
Did you know that you can make falafels from dried garbanzo beans? Most cooked beans are packed in cans that are lined with BSP (bisphenol) so using dried beans, especially when they are organic, is a healthier way to go. And since you only have to soak and not cook the beans in this recipe, its not much of a bother.

Baked Falafels with Lemon Tahini Sauce
Vegan, Gluten Free
[makes 20 (2 inch x 1/2 inch) falafels and 1/2 cup tahini sauce, about 4 to 6 servings]
Requires a food processor, such as a Cusinart
Start soaking the beans the night before.
For the falafels
1 cup dried garbanzo beans
Water to soak beans
2 cloves garlic, peeled
1 teaspoon dried cumin
1/2 teaspoon dried coriander
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
3/4 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup fresh parsley
1 cup chopped onion
1 to 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
For the tahini sauce
1/4 cup tahini (I use raw tahini)
1 clove pressed garlic
3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 to 2 tablespoons water
1/2 teaspoon salt
Pick through the garbanzo beans and discard any clumps of dirt or rocks. Rinse under cold water. Place in a 1 or 2 quart bowl and cover with several inches of water. Soak overnight.
With the food processor running (I really like the 11-cup Cuisinart), place the garlic through the shoot and process until all the garlic is chopped.
Rinse the garbanzo beans and place in the food processor along with the cumin, coriander, cayenne, salt, black pepper, baking powder and parsley. Pulse until the garbanzos are coarsely chopped. Add the onions and pulse until everything is minced. Scrape down the sides when necessary. Do not over process. The resulting mixture should look like this:
| Pulse until the mixture is minced, NOT pureed. |
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Lightly grease a cooking sheet or shallow baking pan. I like to use Silpat non-stick baking mats. These allow me to bake the falafels with the least amount of oil.
Form small balls of the mixture and pat them into 2 inch by 1/2 inch patties. Place on the prepared baking pan. Take a tablespoon of olive oil and using your finger or a brush, rub a little oil over each falafel.
Bake until golden, about 15 minutes on each side. Remove from the oven.
Make the tahini sauce. Place the tahini in a small bowl with the pressed garlic and lemon juice. Stir until it is a smooth paste. Stir in the water until it reaches the desired consistency. Add the salt to taste and set aside.
Serve the falafels in pita bread with small diced cucumbers, avocado, lettuce, and tomatoes drizzled with the tahini sauce.
Or place a few falafels over a salad that has been tossed in a thinner tahini sauce (add some more water) with a bit more tahini sauce drizzled over the falafels.

Vegan Sugar Free Gluten Free Palisades Peach Crisp Or Make It With Nectarines To Avoid Peeling!

My Visit to Grand Junction, Colorado
My good friend, Dr. Christine Gallagher, who is a Natural Health Practitioner at Journey4Wellness, invited us to visit her and her family in Grand Junction, Colorado. Doug and I had never been there so we were excited to visit. They live right at the base of the Colorado National Monument which is one of the most beautiful sites Ive ever seen.
Christine practices a modality that is quite interesting and amazing. Its called Acutonics® which is similar to acupuncture but instead of using needles, she uses special tuning forks! Its very cool.

Colorado Grows Amazing Peaches!
Christine introduced me to Palisades peaches, one of the best tasting peaches Ive ever had! Since she had a big box of them, and Doug and I LOVE crisp, we made the family Palisades peach crisp several times during our visit. Her son is allergic to sugar (a mixed blessing) so we made a sugar free version using stevia. We realized that peaches, like most fruit, is so sweet, sugar is entirely unnecessary!
When we got home, we made it again only this time we used nectarines, instead of peaches, and gluten free flour. Since nectarines have such thin skin, we decided not to peel them. It came out great! So if you arent in the mood to peel peaches, try making nectarine crisp! The gluten free flour also worked very well so this makes a good gluten free dessert if you buy gluten free oats. Oats are naturally gluten free but sometimes they can get contaminated in the processing plant. If you have celiac or are especially intolerant to gluten or wheat, buy "certified" gluten free oats.
| Palisades peaches are amazing! |
| Try making the crisp with sliced nectarines. If they have a thin skin, there is no need to peel them. A real time saver! |

Fish Oil or GLA to Treat Acne Vulgaris Controlled Human Trial Confirms 2g EPA DHA or 400mg GLA do the Trick!
![]() |
| If you want to know how to get of pubertal acne, you got to ask professional pubescents ;-) |
If you google "natural acne treatment" it will usually not take long until you find a reference to fish oil and gamma linoleic acid (as in borage or starflower oil). Against that background it is surprising that the Korean scientist are obviously the first to scrutinize the efficacy of 2,000 mg of eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid and 400 mg γ-linoleic acid (from borage oil) in a parallel design dietary intervention study.
Long-standing "natural acne cure" now scientifically proven
The 45 participants with mild to moderate acne, were allocated to either of the intervention groups for 10 weeks, after which the effect on their skin was evaluated visually and via heamatoxylin, eosin and immunohistochemical staining of the lesions.
DHA + EPA vs. GLA + X: I am not sure if this may have skewed the results, but it is imho worth mentioning that the DHA + EPA group received their 2g of long-chain omega-3s in form of two caps of pure EPA + DHA. The GLA group, on the other hand, had to take 2 caps with 1,000mg of borage oil, which contains 200mg GLA per gram, but also up to 420mg of "regular" linoleic acid, of which scientists believe that it is an acne vulgaris promoter (Wolf. 2004).
And what the scientists observed was ... positive, at least in the omega-3 group, the mean inflammatory acne lesion count was significantly reduced (from 10.1 ± 3.2 in week 0 to 5.8 ± 3.4 in week 10; p < 0.05).![]() |
| Figure 1: Changes in inflammatory acne lesion counts with time (left, top), noninflammatory acne lesion counts with time (left, bottom), and changes in patients subjective assessment (VAS) with time (right; Jung. 2014) |
In the end, there was no no significant difference between the two treatments for any of the measured parameters, so that it is probably up to you, whether you try to control the "fire within your skin" with GLA or DHA + EPA supplements."Mean non-inflammatory acne lesion counts were also reduced by omega-3 and GLA supplementation (23.5 ± 9.2 to 18.9 ± 8.3, p < 0.05, and 22.8 ± 8.4 to 19.2 ± 7.2, p < 0.05, respectively) at final visits, whereas mean lesion count in the control group was unchanged (from 21.8 ± 9.7 to 22.0 ± 8.6). Significant differences were evident between the treatment groups and the control group after 10 weeks (p < 0.05)." (Jung. 2014)
Figure 2: Before (top) and after (bottom) photos (Jung. 2014)
| GLA, EPA & Co play an important role in thyroid disorders, as well | learn more |
It was thus high time for the "pro-science" to catch up with what "bro-scientists" all around the world knew all along. Fish oil and borage oil help with acne vulgaris.
Why? Well, in both cases its probably the reduction of the production of arachidonic acid-derived pro-inflammatory eicosanoids.

Kale Bowl With Quinoa Millet Or Rice Perfect For Breakfast Lunch Or Dinner!Vegan Gluten Free And Low In Calories
| This low-calorie kale bowl is perfect for weight loss! Follow Foods For Long Life on Facebook and Pinterest. Check out my eBook, Health Begins in the Kitchen. |
One of my Favorite Meals
This simple kale bowl makes a great meal. Lately Ive been enjoying it for breakfast but it is also wonderful for lunch or dinner. You can use any of your favorite grains as the base. For a gluten-free meal, use quinoa, millet, or rice. If gluten is not an issue, you can also make the dish with barley, farro, or couscous. Or, if youd like, replace the kale with chard or beet greens.
For breakfast I serve it with a small fruit salad and for lunch or dinner I serve it with a tossed green salad or cup of soup.
Perfect for Weight Loss
Whatever grain or greens you select, its a delicious low calorie recipe, with less than 300 calories per serving. When made with kale and protein-rich quinoa, the dish provides 11 grams of complete protein, providing all of the essential amino acids. It also delivers a substantial dose of omega-3 fatty acids. The avocado provides a healthy monounsaturated fat that keeps you full longer.

Kale Bowl with Quinoa, Avocado, and Hemp Seeds
Vegan, Gluten Free
[makes 4 servings]
1 cup quinoa
2 cups water
1/4 teaspoon salt plus some for sprinkling
4 packed cups raw kale, stems removed and washed
1 avocado
2 tablespoons raw hemp seeds
1/2 lemon
Prepare quinoa. If quinoa is not pre-rinsed, place in a fine mesh strainer and rinse under cold water for several minutes.
Place quinoa in a 2-quart sauce pan with 1/4 teaspoon of salt and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, until all the water is absorbed, about 18 to 20 minutes. Remove from the heat and let rest for another 10 minutes.
While the quinoa is cooking, steam the kale until tender, about 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, thinly slice the avocado and set aside.
To prepare the kale bowl, place one quarter of the cooked quinoa in each of four bowls.
| I used multi-colored quinoa as the base of this kale bowl. |
Place one quarter of the steamed kale over the quinoa.
Place one quarter of the avocado slices over the kale.
Squeeze fresh lemon juice over each bowl and sprinkle each with one quarter of the hemp seeds and a little salt. Serve immediately.

Dark Chocolate Hemp Seeds by HimalaniaMakes A Great Topping For Fruit Or Ice Cream

| Hemp seeds and chocolate are a great combination! Follow Foods For Long Life on Facebook and Pinterest. Download my eBook, Health Begins in the Kitchen, on Amazon and iTunes. |
Healthy, Yummy Treat
When I saw this new product in the store, I scooped it off of the shelf as quickly as I could and couldnt wait to try it. You know Im a big hemp seed fan - to date Ive got over a dozen posts on them. And who doesnt love dark chocolate?
Hemp seeds are one of the best sources of highly digestible protein. And they contain all of the essential amino acids making them a "complete" protein.
Hemp seeds also contain a good amount of omega-3 fatty acid with the perfect balance of omega-6. These fatty acids are important for the nervous system to function, for brain development, healthy skin, and a healthy heart and immune system. They also contain Stearidonic Acid (SDA) and Gamma LInolenic Acid (GLA), both of which help you utilize your omega essential fatty acids.
The best news is that American farmers are once again allowed to grow hemp thanks to a provision in the 2014 farmed bill. Because hemp is in the cannabis family (but has almost no THC and cannot make your high), the U.S drug laws prohibited the growing of hemp in the U.S. But everyone has finally come to their senses and now our farmers can tap into this very lucrative market. Canadas hemp production is bringing in almost a billion dollars a year!

Two tablespoons of these chocolate covered hemp seeds provide:

500 mg omega-3 fatty acid
1,500 mg omega-6 fatty acid
3 g high quality protein
3 g dietary fiber
17 g carbohydrates
0 mg sodium
Rich in iron, magnesium and copper
I love these over fruit or non-dairy ice cream. You can also sprinkle them on yogurt or bake them into muffins.

Where to Buy
I found these at my local Whole Foods Market. But, as most everything else, you can buy them online at Amazon. If your local health food store doesnt have them, ask them to get them. They are delicious and healthy and I highly recommend them!
They state that they are not dairy free (so they are NOT VEGAN) but Im lactose intolerant and have had no issues with them since I only sprinkle a teaspoon or so on my fruit.
Enjoy!

Make your Holiday Vegan Friendly and Healthy
Whether you are vegan and preparing an entire holiday meal for your family or if youre not vegan and would like to have some healthy meatless recipe ideas for the holidays, youve come to the right place. In 2009, Ive posted over 70 original, healthy vegan recipes. Here are a few of them that Ive put together for a holiday menu. Enjoy!
Vegan Christmas or New Years Eve Menu
Please click on recipe titles to link to the actual recipes and then hit the back arrow to return to this posting.
Appetizer
This Walnut and mushroom pate recipe is a great substitute for chopped chicken liver and pâté du foie gras. Serve it with a sliced baguette or with crackers.
Soup
For our soup I selected an old classic with a vegan twist. This French onion soup recipe is made with a quick, home-made mushroom broth and is topped with garlic toast. It also has protein-rich Cannellini beans.
Main Course
Being Italian, most of our big holiday meals centered around a large tray of lasagna or beautiful individual manicotti or stuffed shells. So it was natural for me to pick my Vegan manicotti with sprouted tofu and tomato basil sauce recipe for the main course. Ive paired this with a Raw kale salad with different types of kale, shredded carrots and a lemon vinaigrette.
Dessert
Weve left room for 2 light and healthy desserts. The first is a Vanilla chia pudding with hemp milk and blueberries. Instead of blueberries, you can make it with pomegranate seeds or diced Fuyu persimmons. The second dessert is an Ice Cream Tart with Raspberries on a raw walnut crust, filled with vanilla soy ice cream.
Have a healthy and happy holiday!
