Top 10 Slow Cooker Potluck Dishes

Were approaching a 3-Day weekend, and many of us will be attending barbecues, picnics, and family events. Dont arrive empty-handed!

Instead, load up your slow cooker with one of the following crowd-pleasing dishes. Ive listed the  recipes in countdown order--- if you have a favorite, please chime in below. Happy Labor Day!

10) Salsa Chicken and Black Bean Soup. This is filling, delicious, and is different enough to gain lots of attention on the buffet table. Easy to stretch by serving rice, and fixens like sliced avocado and tortilla chips.

9) Lima Bean Casserole Cassoulet. I love serving this to guests and listening to the conversation. "what type of beans are these?" "Im not sure. some sort of large pinto beans or something?" I usually wait until the pot is practically empty before coming clean that they were lima beans.

8) Honey Lentils. Delicious, nutritious, vegan vegetarian, and such a fun offering to bring to a picnic. I get the nicest emails about these lentils!

7) Pesto Spinach Lasagna. I need to run to the store to pick up the ingredients for this! You have never had a better vegetarian lasagna. So so good.

6) Hirino Psito. This is a wonderful main dish to serve to guests. Worcestershire sauce, dijon mustard, and beer mix together to create a savory sauce that perfectly compliments the sweet contrast of brown sugar and cranberries. Win!

5) Brie with Apricot Topping. To make this more user-friendly for guests, insert an oven-safe dish into your large slow cooker and load the ingredients into the dish. Then remove the dish (use mitts!) and serve with your favorite crackers (we like Glutino a lot). Do not add water in the crockpot around the dish.

4) Pomegranate Beef. When we host a dinner for new friends, I usually make this. This keeps picky older relatives happy, along with the kids (note to self: I need to update some of these photos!). Ive made this for television audiences, and served it at the Disneyland Food & Wine Festival, where the kitchen chefs gave rave reviews, which made me cry. This recipe was also featured on Oprah.com!

3) Cream Cheese, Sausage,  and Rotel Dip (mommy crack). The ingredients are odd, the taste is not. Make this and youll be happy.

2) Potluck Beans. We cant have a potluck countdown without potluck beans, now can we? These beans have bacon. Nuff said.

1) Original Taco Soup. Feeds a bunch, easy to throw together, and everyone LOVES it. This has been our number one potluck bring along for the past 12 years.

Honorable mention: Black Beans with Cilantro. I ran out of numbers--- this is a great bean recipe.
Enjoy your long weekend!

3 Top Supplements for Radiation Detox

Supplementing any kind of diet or food lifestyle in this current age is an absolute must when it comes to eliminating radiation.  Raw foods can do a lot for the human physiology and more potent superfoods and supplements can also massively impact us to shift radiation from the cells.

I started awakening to raw in 2009 when I read the book Skinny Bitch by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnoin which was mainly about the positive aspects of becoming vegan.  I became vegan for a while but was still working out the whole diet thing which would suit me. I must say, I  most often will just pick things to suit my mood.  Thats no problem for me anyway as it is still always vegetarian and sometimes vegan.  Therefore, my health is pretty much awesome most of the time.

Supplementing any diet lifestyle can help the cells detox and anyone who doesnt supplement who is promoting vegan seriously needs to question why because organic is only one small strand in a whole bigger picture of health that needs to be addressed.

After various nuclear distasters worldwide, radiation is a massive issue.  It is everywhere, it covers everything and it needs to be cleaned up.  We cannot really see this radiation physically so we dont know the impact on the human unless it manifests itself physically.
We need to address the whole body not just feeding ourselves fruits and vegetables but thinking about the very cells that are absorbing everything from our environment including food.

3 Top Supplements for Radiation Detox

I have only just started experimenting with Iodine most recently and have still yet to experience great results, however I can comment that these 3 supplements are very powerful and need to be used with caution and great care.  I am no health expert, I just do my research and decide to do whats best for me.

Iodine

Ancient Purity - "Iodine is found in every organ of the body and is essential for humans. Almost all of us are low on iodine. Low iodine levels are linked to many health problems. Iodine is not only good for health, it’s vital. In 1880, a French physician named Jacques Lugol originated a solution which contains 5% of elemental Iodine in a 10% solution of Potassium Iodide. It has been used steadily ever since. Researchers are warning iodine deficiency could be becoming endemic in the UK "A study involving more than 700 teenage girls at 9 UK centers found more that two-thirds had a deficiency. Iodine deficiency is the most common cause of preventable mental impairment worldwide, affecting a third of the worlds population."

Bush Flower Essences Electro essence

"Electro Essence reduced radiation levels in children affected by the Chernobyl disaster by 43% in comparison with a control group who had only 3.5% reduction*." LINK

I have taken the Bush Flower Electro essence (at least two courses lasting two weeks in length).  I must say this essence has really helped me to wake up in the morning.  The essences are very subtle and work on a vibrational level, so you may be expecting some massive physical change, however, for me it has been subtle and more on a feeling level - more energy; feeling more at ease; feeling overall better in general.

We have probably all been subjected to some radiation directly - especially if you have had an x-ray for a broken bone, where the radiation is intensified.  This essence has really helped me to release this radiation - how do I know?  I feel more energetic in general.

Top 20 weight loss hacks

The greatest journey starts with a single step.  The journey towards our own best bodies is just the same.
Its a daily decision to take those small steps towards where we want to be. The good news, with this, is that you can take a step back here and there and still be moving in the right direction.
It may not be the fastest way to reach your goal but its the most likely way to sustain the pace in the long run.
Without further ado, here are 20 top tweaks to lose weight and keep it lost.

1. Set a small, specific goal. Stick it somewhere you will see it every day
Creating a measurable vision you can take steps towards works. A Harvard study from the 70s found that those who had a specific goal earned, on average, twice as much as those that didnt have a goal. Those that wrote down their goals earned even more. The point is when were clear about what we want we are far more likely to achieve it.
2. Focus only on losing the next kilo
Whether you want to lose two or twenty kilograms, keeping the attention on the immediate goals helps to keep you from feeling overwhelmed. It also means you have more regular reasons to celebrate your wins.
3. Have exercise dates with your family, friends or partner
When time is of the essence, this is a way to kill two birds with one stone. Jogging on treadmills side-by-side may not be your thing (and thank God really that its not), but you might have a group game of volleyball, go paddleboarding, play cricket or squash.
Research shows that exercise with others releases more endorphins (the happiness hormones) than when you exercise alone and also helps us to bond with others.
4. Know what works for you
Everyone is different, so get clear on the strategies that help you to succeed. For some people its working out as soon as you wake up, for others its doing exercise that you find fun. It might be eating healthily and having a cheat day or it might mean having one small treat each day.
5. Schedule exercise
Making the time official is making a commitment to yourself, your body and your health. Planning also helps you to create consistency and integrate exercise into your everyday life. It means you can slot in some high intensity exercise if you only have 20 minutes on one day and book into a longer class when youve a little more time the next. New sites, like Fitness Calendar, can help you to plan your week ahead.
6. Work up a sweat from exercise at least a few times a week
Its good to get moving every day, but amping up the intensity at least a few times a week will also amp up your results (assuming youre healthy and do not have a heart condition). Working yourself into a sweat gives a natural boost to human growth hormone (HGH) production – which is essential for optimal health – and research shows, it improves insulin sensitivity, boosts fat loss, and increases muscle growth.
7. Shake up your exercise to keep your body guessing and your mind fresh
Our muscles adjust when we do the same exercises repeatedly and as we plateau, we stop seeing results. The easiest way to counter this is to remember that variety is the spice of exercise, as it is life.
Play around with the intensity and switch up aerobic exercise with strength training, flexibility, core exercise and balance training.
8. Try on your jeans once a week to keep track of how youre going
Arguably a better approach than scales – which do not show weight gain from muscle mass - trying on your jeans will show that your waist and hips are cinching in while your butt, like a little sunflower, perks up.
9. Take before and after pictures
Hard evidence that the slog is paying off. This is a simple, but invaluable method demonstrating you have the power to transform yourself.
10. Sign up to a challenge and join a group to train for it
In the spirit of one step at a time, a fitness challenge gives us a short-term goal to work towards, tangible results (which are essential for motivation and our sense of progress) and the support and camaraderie from training towards that goal in a group makes it fun and helps to spur you along.
11. Incorporate greens into your day. Every day.
Blend em, juice em, fry em, eat em. Greens are a no brainer and pretty much the one thing every health professional agrees we need more of – to be healthy and if we want our bodies to look their best.
Low in calories but high in nutrients, they help keep us full and give our bodies the fuel they need to be lean, mean efficient machines theyre meant to be.
12. Keep a food journal and be utterly honest in it
I know, it can seem like a waste of precious time and surely you already know what and how much you eat. Dont you? In fact many of us would be surprised to see the unconscious extra calories we consume.
A diary – which is easiest if we write (or type it) as we go –  is a simple (and free) way to create awareness about what were really eating. Research also shows that they can be a key component in losing extra weight.
13. Enjoy healthy monounsaturated fats like avocado, nuts, olive oil and tuna
Its about time the "fat makes you fat" myth has been debunked. An abundance of researchshows that "good" fats help reduce heart disease, lower cholesterol levels and have other health benefits when they replace saturated fats in the diet. Increasing your fat intake can actually help weight loss.
14. Remember that there can be too much of a good thing and keep an eye on your portion sizes
Dietitian Susie Burrell says she sees many healthy, fit individuals doing their very best to eat well. "But such an intense focus on including as many healthy foods in the diet as possible has resulted in ... a calorie overload".
She says were looking for a couple of serves a day of healthy fats. One serve translates into 100-150g of oily fish, ¼ of an avocado, a handful of nuts or seeds and a couple of teaspoons of oil.
15. Have occasions when you indulge in your favourite foods and enjoy them without guilt
Simply, if we have a little flexibility with food and can include our favourite things then we will have more staying power. Some research even suggests indulging once a week can aid your weight loss efforts.
16. Prioritise sleep
Getting enough sleep (and this will vary from person to person, but tends to be at least 7 to 8 hours a night) impacts metabolism, weight, mood and cardiovascular health among other things. So for your health, fitness and sanity, its worth making time to save time.
17. Up the ante on your water intake and have a jug or flask with you wherever you go
Most adults lose about 2.5 to 3 litres of water a day. Most of us also dont drink enough to replenish what we lose and not only is it vital, it keeps our skin in spanking condition, carries nutrients and oxygen to cells, and can also even help us lose weight. So bottoms up.
18. See a doctor and get the support you need if you have health concerns
There are various medical reasons why those who are eating right and acting right may not be losing weight. So, if you feel like something is not right dont shut up and put up.
19. Take time out to rest, recover and spend in nature
"Nature is fuel for the soul." While standing in the grass and "earthing" might sound a little hippy, being in nature also energises us, improves our immunity and gives us a heightened sense of wellbeing.
20. Practise self-compassion
We dont get it right every step of the way and sometimes we slip and fall into the tub of ice cream, miss a workout or get screamingly drunk. If we can be gentle with ourselves and resolve to keep guiding ourselves back on track this will help us stay the course.  Research shows self-compassion may just be the most important life skill and helps us develop resilience, courage and energy.
